Isbank Group in the energy business
The Isbank Group, apart from its main activities in banking and financial services, operates in various sectors such as glass, insurance, real estate investment trusts, and technology through its subsidiaries. With the aim of creating an integrated energy portfolio, including electricity generation and trade, the group has established İş Enerji Yatırımları A.Ş.
To expand its scope of activities further, Isbank Group has ventured into the energy sector, particularly electricity generation, by establishing İş Enerji Yatırımları A.Ş. under the umbrella of Trakya Yatırım Holding A.Ş., which is wholly owned by Isbank.
İş Enerji aims to participate in the production and trade of electric energy, primarily based on renewable energy sources such as hydro, wind, and solar power. It seeks to become an effective player in the transformation that will reduce energy dependency.
With its significant contributions to Turkey's annual electricity production through credit support in the electricity sector, Isbank Group currently plays an investor role with its shareholdings in renewable energy power plants with an installed capacity exceeding 800 MW.
Recent global developments, including the pandemic and the subsequent effects as well as the impacts arising from the Russia-Ukraine conflict, once again highlight the importance for countries to undertake structural transformations that enhance energy efficiency and reduce energy dependency. Through its investments, İş Enerji aims to be an effective actor in this transformation process.
By focusing on power plants that predominantly utilize renewable energy sources such as hydro, wind, and solar, İş Enerji aims to reinforce Isbank’s approach to sustainability and contribute to the "green economy" transformation.
Since last year, Isbank has started using renewable energy in all feasible operational points. Since 2015, all project financing for electricity generation investments has been dedicated to renewable energy projects. Currently, 75% of the bank's total energy production project portfolio consists of renewable energy.
